The Dangers of asbestos All Asbestos is a class 1 - carcinogen (cancer forming) material. This material is responsible for being the UK's biggest industrial killer! There are currently 3000-4000 people dying from Asbestos related diseases per year. This figure is expected to rise to 10000 by 2010, according to HSE estimates. Asbestos is only dangerous when the microscopic fibres are released into the air and inhaled. It can take from approx 15 to 60 years from exposure to developing Asbestos related diseases.
